Administrative law is the branch of law that governs how the executive branch of government interacts with the general public. The legislative branch will create a statute that governs a certain area administered by the government, and will prescribe that a special “administrative tribunals” will review that area of the law. The tribunal is like a committee that will hear litigants’ claims in the area administered by that government agency.
For example, residential tenancies, immigration, Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) claims, and employment and income assistance (EIA) are areas where if a dispute arises, the litigant must seek remedy at the administrative tribunal dedicated to resolution of these disputes, and not in the courthouse.
Omar has represented many clients at the Residential Tenancies Branch (RTB), and assisted clients with MPI and Mental Health Review Board (MHRB) matters. These matters are also covered by Legal Aid Manitoba (LAM) which will fund the litigant with a lawyer at their expense if the litigant meets certain criteria.
If you are facing issues with your landlord or your tenant, please contact Omar for a consultation.
